Field Technician

Hazardous Materials/Indoor Environmental Quality

Sudbury, ON

 

Today is the day to boost your career!  Pinchin is seeking a Field Technician offering a 6-month contract with opportunity to become FT to join our Hazardous Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality team in our Sudbury office.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Field Technician will conduct effective worker exposure and workplace monitoring, safety inspections and audits. You will assist in developing various types of hygiene, health and safety documentation, prepare technical reports and liaise with clients to ensure their needs and goals are met.

A Day in the life of a Field Technician at Pinchin: 

 

  • Complete assessments for mould, indoor air quality (IAQ), industrial hygiene, designated substances, and other hazardous materials
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns
  • Perform inspections and evaluating building systems
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke, and fire
  • Assist clients following flood and loss emergencies to get buildings dried, cleaned, or remediated and operational
  • Collect mould and bacteria samples
  • Identify and sampling suspect asbestos, lead, and PCB-containing materials
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and providing recommendations to address IAQ and hazardous materials concerns
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking mould, asbestos and other hazardous materials remediation work to document that the work has been properly completed
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples
  • Perform hazardous building materials assessments, including designated substances
  • Prepare reports and drawings detailing the findings and recommendations
  • Complete on-site inspections relating to the removal of hazardous materials
  • Business development to existing clients
  • Maintain and enhance quality control within the group

 

What you bring to the Pinchin team:

 

  • College diploma in Construction or Architectural Technology, or Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent
  • Entry level to two years of experience
  • Hazardous Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality experience
  • Related Post-secondary education an asset
  • C.E.T. or related designations will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines
  • Familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc.)
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings
  • Experience working with environmental monitoring equipment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products
  • Availability to work outside our core business hours and rotational weekends
  • Vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance as travel around the designated region is required
  • There are times when employees are required by our clients to undergo security clearances and/or drug and alcohol testing to gain access to certain job sites
