Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Occupational Therapist on Orthopedics/ Neurosurgery. The successful incumbent will use a holistic, client, and family-centred approach to optimize safety, functional ability, and well-being to enable participation in activities of daily living within the areas of self-care, productivity (e.g. work, home, and school) and leisure throughout each level of the developmental spectrum. Emphasize the physical, cognitive, affective, and spiritual components of clients’ functional performance and the physical, institutional, social, and cultural aspects of the environment.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT), from an accredited university and current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). We are seeking a candidate with experience working with people who have severe and persistent physical illness’.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Surgery unit at Health Sciences North is a 45 bed unit staffed by a team of surgeons, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, nurse clinician, pharmacist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers.  Care is provided for clients with a variety of conditions including back and cranial surgeries, brain tumours, head and spinal cord injuries; hip fractures and various other fracture injuries as well as shoulder and hand surgeries, and trauma.

REHABILITATION PROFESSIONALS INCENTIVE GRANT

The incentive grant program offers taxable incentive grants of up to $5,000 per eligible year, to a maximum of $15,000 paid over a three-year period to audiologists, chiropodists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech language pathologists who establish their practice in Northern Ontario and accept full-time positions which are fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and which are approved by the Northern Health Programs (NHP). In order to be eligible for this incentive grant, the NHP must approve the application before the applicant establishes his/her practice. More information regarding this grant can be found here.
