United Way Centraide North East Ontario (UWCNEO)

Labour Engagement OfficerÂ
The Labour Engagement Officer (LEO) at UWCNEO champions & inspires union members & citizens to work together to build better communities for everyone. Supporting all aspects of the relationship between UWCNEO & organized Labour, the LEO, with guidance from UWCNEO and the Canadian Labour Congress, will;
Foster strong partnerships between the Sudbury, North Bay, & Kapuskasing District Labour Councils, Canadian Labour Congress affiliated unions, organized Labour, & UWCNEO.
Support labour involvement in UWCNEO’s Board of Directors, Labour Executive, Always United Group, Campaign Cabinet & other volunteer roles leading United Way’s work.
Engage with unions, unionized workplaces & union locals, volunteers, and stakeholders, to develop & support engagement & fundraising initiatives that contribute to strengthening cultures & community relationships.
Identify innovative opportunities for United Way & Labour to collaborate on programs & partnerships that benefit our communities.
Foster & build strategic partnerships to ensure we make a meaningful difference in our communities.
Promote 211.
Develop, coordinate, & facilitate Labour Community Advocate education & training curricula for union workers & communities in NE Ontario.
Qualifications:
You are a self-driven, goal-oriented individual who is passionate about working collectively to make a difference in people’s lives. You will have a solid understanding the Labour movement & an awareness & understanding of community issues. A strongly collaborative team player, you are able to recognize strategic opportunities & can build & sustain strong relationships.
You will also possess the following attributes:
A minimum of a Grade 12 or equivalent; post-secondary education in Labour Studies will be considered asset an asset.
3 plus years involvement with a union as an active member & a current member in good standing.
Demonstrated commitment through volunteering or other activities.
Demonstrated project/program management skills, excellent organizational & communication skills, ability to lead meetings & make presentations to large groups.
Experience with public speaking, with demonstrated competencies in developing, organizing, & facilitating labour & social issues related curriculum an asset.
Proficient in online meeting platforms for hosting meetings, outreach, & facilitation methods.
Experience with database & application software, engagement with social media platforms, & demonstrate intermediate Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPoint skills.
Bilingualism (French/English) an asset.
Access to a reliable vehicle & clean drivers abstract.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule with some evenings & weekends.
This full-time position is based in our Sudbury office.

What UWCNEO offers:
Starting Wage of $53,000 to $55,000, depending on experience.
Full benefit package.
Participation in DB Pension Plan.
The LEO will work 35 hours a week with the hours being flexible to meet the needs of the program. A typical work week is from Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30. Some travel may be required.
