and Field Technician

MIRARCO was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit mining and environmental
research corporation, owned by Laurentian University. MIRARCO is governed by
an independent Board of Directors, representing a number of mineral resource
services and supply companies. Industry research contracts and government
grants provide the operational funding.
The company has evolved over the years through the establishment of niche
research centres in response to industry demand, serving clients over a variety of

The candidate will be responsible for supporting research efforts in geomechanics,
mining, and civil projects including:
Research related to:
● Fracture mechanisms, Hydraulic preconditioning applied to mining
● Natural stress measurement via field testing
● Tensile and shear fracturing
● Numerical models to solve excavation stability problems to predict
underground excavation convergence
● Estimation of rockmass strength
● Available to provide support in off-site projects as required
● Conduct and assist with laboratory testing
● Preparation of a journal paper and reports

Reports to:
Lab Manager and Senior Geomechanics Lab and Field Technician

Working Conditions:
No special working conditions apply to this role but some travel (local and international)
and field work will be required.
